The

ABS hydraulic unit

receives commands from the ABS controller and sensor rings on each wheel, which detect when a particular wheel is spinning at a different speed than the others. When necessary, ABS hydraulic units provide pulsed pressure to each brake to ensure that the wheel doesn't lock for more than a nano-second.
A fault in the

ABS hydraulic unit

will cause a warning light to appear on the dashboard, and is a potential cause for an MOT failure. It is advisable to only use quality ABS hydraulic units.
