Used in disc braking systems, the role of the brake callipers is to apply the pressure needed for the brake pads to grip the spinning metal brake disc and slow or stop the car.

hydraulically operate the brake pads to create the friction in a disc brake system. They come in various shapes and sizes and with different numbers of pistons but all share the same function of transferring the hydraulic pressure generated by the master cylinder to a mechanical force applied to the brake pads.

Frequent on-off braking can also generate a lot of heat which will further reduce the lifespan of the brake callipers and other related parts.
