Performance Brakes are critical component in terms of both your cars performance and safety. There are many components that contribute to a cars braking characteristics, from brake discs and pads to hoses and calipers, each one can be changed and improved upon. The most common and simplest upgrade would be to change the brake pads to a type made with a high friction material, but it is important to choose the right type for your car and what you use it for, most manufacturers such as EBC will offer advice to which type of pads is best for which car to give the best performance. Once you have changed the pads then you can look at changing the brakes discs or rotors as they are also known, these come is a variety of shapes and sizes. Mostly you will find discs will have the braking surface either drilled or grooved or sometimes both, these patterns help with cooling the brakes down and expelling gases and debris away from the surface, all of which makes the braking more efficient and help reduce brake fade. The next step would be to change to flexible brake hoses for a stronger type, the marketing leading brand would be Goodridge who were one of the first to develop this type of upgrade, they supply a complete replacement brake hose kit for most cars made from a PTFE inner tube covered with a stainless steel outer braid, this helps to give a better feel to the brake pedal. The last step would be to fit a Big Brake Conversion, this will enable you to increase the size of your brakes for the ultimate upgrade, most kits include everything you need to fit such as Pads, Discs, Calipers, Hoses and the other necessary fittings.
