What Are Wheel Trims, And What Do They Do?

As the closest part of your car to the road, your wheels take on a lot of grime from road debris, kerb scrapes and bad-weather driving conditions. Wheel trims are circular coverings designed to prevent that dirt and debris from building around the central wheel hub. They’re also decorative, giving your wheels a sleek, shiny finish.

Choosing Your Wheel Trims

To check which wheel trim you need, look for a number on your tyre that’s preceded by the letter ‘R’. The number indicates the inch size you need; for example, R14 means you’ll need 14-inch wheel trims. Use our reg checker above for personalised wheel trims to match your car.

How To Fit A Car Wheel Trim

  1. Remove the existing wheel trim by gently pulling it from several places around your wheel. It should pop straight off
  2. Take your new wheel trim, and line it up and with the circular indent on your wheel
  3. Push the trim firmly into place until it feels secure
  4. Repeat for all 4 of your car’s wheels

FAQs

Are Wheel Trims Easy To Fit?

Fitting wheel trims is a fairly simple task. While you’ll need to apply some gentle force, your wheels don’t need to be removed to fit your new trim (unlike alloy wheels), making things a lot easier.

Is It Safe To Drive Without A Wheel Trim?

Yes, it’s safe to drive without a wheel trim; they are not a necessity for your car or a legal requirement.

Why Do Wheel Trims Fall Off?

Wheel trims can become loose and fall off if they’re not effectively fixed in place. Many of our wheel trims include secure locking rings to stop this from happening. Sunlight can also weaken your wheel trims over time; we supply trims made from high-quality, heat-resistant ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) to help prevent this.

Can You Put Wheel Trims Over Alloys?

Wheel trims aren’t typically designed to be placed over alloys, due to the different shape and style of alloy wheels. We recommend checking your wheel trims are compatible with your alloys before ordering.

How Can I Repair Scuffed Wheel Trims?

Use a microfibre cloth to gently buff scuffs and dirt build up away from your wheels. Hard-wearing wheel paint can give your trims a refresh if they’ve gotten scuffed and scraped over time.
