What do brake calipers do?

Brake calipers are essential to the function of the brakes, fitting over the brake pads and pistons. They act as a clamp to stop the wheel from turning when you step on the brake, slowing the car down.

Can potholes damage brake calipers?

It's unlikely that your braking system, including brake calipers, will be damaged as a result of potholes. Brake lines have more movement and flexibility than other sections of the car such as the suspension.

How do you test a brake caliper?

While driving, you may notice your car pulling to one side, which could indicate a faulty caliper. When on an axel or jack, if you struggle to turn the wheel while inspecting your car, then it's likely you have a sticky brake caliper.

Should you replace both calipers?

It's best to replace the calipers on both sides of the vehicle, even if only one is faulty, as it can cause an imbalance while driving and braking.
